Its roster includes Tim DeRuyter, SaRodorick Thompson, and Tahj Brooks. You can read more about these players in this article.
TCU Horned Frogs
The TCU-Texas Tech football rivalry is an American college football rivalry. The two teams are from Texas Christian University and Texas Tech University, respectively. Each team has its own unique style and play-style, but they share a history of being a top-flight rival. The Horned Frogs were founded in 1886 as a part of Texas Christian University, while the Red Raiders are a member of the Texas Tech University athletic department.
In their last four games, Texas Tech has allowed at least 37 points to the opponent. They have also surrendered more than 1,000 yards in the ground game this season, and their opponents have scored 14 touchdowns on the ground. The Frogs have allowed 27.3 points per game this season, and have given up 218 points in the air.
Tim DeRuyter
As the new head coach at Texas Tech, Tim DeRuyter will be responsible for the football team’s defense. Last season, DeRuyter inherited an inconsistent offense and was forced to make several adjustments, including switching to a 3-4 defense. That defensive scheme has kept Texas Tech in many games, but has led to some painful losses. This season, DeRuyter’s defense will be crucial, particularly with a quarterback in Donovan Smith.
DeRuyter has a history of success at college football, having served as the defensive coordinator at seven different schools. While at Texas A&M, he helped lead the Aggies to the top-ranked defense in the nation. Before arriving at Tech, DeRuyter had been the defensive coordinator at California for four years. In his final year at Cal, he helped revive the Golden Bears’ offense and cut the Golden Bears’ points allowed per game in half.
SaRodorick Thompson
SaRodorick Thompson is the star running back for the Texas Tech football team. He attended Ranchview High School in Texas and was a three-star recruit by 247 Sports and ESPN. In his first season, Thompson played in four games and caught two passes for 10 yards. His sophomore year, he played in 12 games, gaining nearly two hundred yards.
Thompson is a versatile player with the size and speed to move the ball and make catches. He shows good balance between tackles, has good power, and has excellent vision. He can also exploit cut-back lanes. Thompson’s speed also makes him a weapon on swing passes, and his vision is great. He also has natural running instincts, which helps him win tackles.
Tahj Brooks
The rushing attack of Texas Tech is led by a versatile running back in Tahj Brooks. He is expected to lead the team in rushing for the second straight season. Brooks’ vision is what separates four-yard totes from 38-yard sprints. His vision is also what separates good college backs from future NFL players. In addition to his athleticism, Brooks possesses the intangibles that make a great NFL back.
Brooks has the ability to combine rushing attempts and passing game production. In his first two games, he has registered 107 rushing yards on 6.7 yards per carry. While he did not have a monster rushing performance, Brooks established himself early and formed a nice duo with fellow running back Sarodorick Thompson.
TCU’s success in the Big 12
The Big 12 has announced plans to add four teams, and will have a total of 12 teams by 2024-25. This expansion comes after the Pac-12 denied any expansion bids. Big 12 Chancellor Victor Boschini said that the Big 12 was unanimous in its decision to add the four teams. The announcement of the expansion was met with skepticism on campus, but public reaction has been positive.
TCU’s offensive line is strong and the team has deep running backs and receivers. Their offense is explosive and averages 8.3 yards per play. That’s a good start for a team that’s trying to rebuild its reputation in the Big 12.
Duggan’s influence on texas tech football
Texas Tech’s defense has to be more effective against Duggan. Duggan’s streak of 127 straight passes without a pick came to an end when Zech McPhearson intercepted a deep pass on the first play. Texas Tech’s offense was held to minus-6 yards in total offense in the second half.
Duggan threw for a career high completion percentage, yards per pass attempt, and touchdowns. He also logged 20 sacks. The former SMU quarterback believes his role will be more straightforward under Dykes. Interestingly enough, Dykes has been trying to recruit his former SMU quarterback, Chandler Morris, to join the program. Morris is the son of former Arkansas coach Chad Morris.
